This project has been completed!!
Kapsigilai Girls Secondary School (KGS) or KAPS KGS is located in KENYA, Nandi County and started its operations in 2008 as a girls boarding secondary school. The school consists of 80 girls in the Chemase area and surrounding environment. The harsh terrain, lack of social and economic infrastructure and marginalization of the area has contributed to low literacy levels. Poverty levels are also high in the area and the region is prone to malaria and cholera. The girls in this area are given away for marriage at an early age of between 13-16 years old. The school is currently housed in inadequate and semi-permanent classrooms. An old house donated by the community has been converted to the girls dining hall and classroom. There is no running water and sanitation facilities are inadequate. There is no electricity. In order to provide quality education and hope for the disadvantaged and vulnerable girls, the school is offering boarding facilities and creating a favorable learning environment for the girls. This is expected to raise the graduation rate and allow girls to carry out their required schooling without the fear of being given out or sold into a polygamist marriage. GROWTH has been assisting Kapsigilai Girls School with tuition fees, practical needs for the girls and providing Bible audio players. As we get the word out about this project, we are hoping to reach more individuals interested in sponsorship. We are working with the KGS to implement a dispensary for hygiene and personal care needs, including providing personal care bags for each of the girls. |
Although our packet distribution for this project is completed, we are still accepting donations for support of the school fees for the girls at KAPS.
