UPDATE: December KAPS Assistance Offering and Review of 2012
Let me begin by saying, "We serve a faithful God!" Looking back, you may remember that last year at our December 2011 GROWTH meeting, we took an offering and were able to support 12 girls for a full year's education, dorm space and food. (A full year's education with dorm space and food is $250 US dollars per student.) The lives of these young women have forever been changed. As I have shared in the past, a couple of these young gals would never have gone to school if there had not been our sponsorship.
Then in 2012, we held a school supplies drive and were able to supply 100 students at the school with much needed school supplies: pencils, pens, scissors, color pencils, erasers, etc. We also provided basic over-the-counter medicines for the school to begin a basic dispensary: ibuprofen, anti-itch cream, anti-fungals, etc.
About mid-way through 2012 we began our sewing project to provide the 100 young women at this school menstrual packets. This has led to the outreach called It's Our Mission: Period! (www.its-our-mission-period.org) To date, literally thousands of liners, shields, & carry bags have been sewn by women here locally -- and now there are multitudes joining this effort/project around the country. This combined effort of local sewing and others joining us around the country, will allow us to provide packets to school girls in other areas as we continue to receive finished products by those who are sewing with us for this project.
This past week at the December 2012 GROWTH meeting, we again offered the opportunity for people to help support the young women at the Kapsigilai School in Kenya by giving toward the tuition costs. As we prayed regarding the offering that night, we asked God to bless it, as He blessed the loaves and the fishes, to provide exactly what was needed to accomplish His purposes. And, as only God could do -- He provided exactly what was needed to support 12 students. Just over $3000 was given in the support offering for the girls school tuition. This will ensure that 12 girls will again be provided with a full year's education, dorm space and food for the year 2013. We will have photos and more info after Jon and I return from our time in Kenya early in 2013.
Be encouraged and know that we as women, working together, can make a difference -- we can bring change to the world -- we can be the hands and feet of Jesus -- we can impact our families, communities and the world as we set our hearts in common purpose for His Kingdom.
Jon and I personally thank you ... and pray that God will bless you abundantly ~~ What a faithful God we serve!
